OK…for full disclosure:
I’ve never met Mr. Elway. I admire him and appreciate his dedication to the brave men and women fighting for us overseas. It does pain me when I see him walking because, at times, I can tell his career beat the snot out of his knees. If you need proof, look at videos of him getting up onto the pre-game set before the Broncos’ playoff game last season or getting off the jet at Winston-Salem, NC airport this past week.
I did not respect Mr. Elway as a “professional” for reason number 1, below.
Also, I haven’t liked Mr. Elway or the Denver Broncos since “my” Green Bay Packers were defeated in Super Bowl XXXII. (OK…petty but I’m getting over this as a motivating factor to not like the Broncos.) I did root for the Broncos this year (for the first time EVER) after Tim Tebow started taking game snaps.

HOWEVER I WILL NOT ROOT FOR THE BRONCOS WHILE MR. ELWAY IS IN A POSITION OF LEADERSHIP NOR DO I RESPECT HIM BECAUSE:
1. He refused to play for the Baltimore Colts when they drafted him in 1983[1]. Instead of returning to the New York Yankees baseball system, he was traded to the Denver Broncos [1,2]. Yeah, old history but it shows something about his character.
2. About 3 weeks before the 2011 NFL draft, “sources” reported that Mr. Elway would draft a quarterback as early as the second round [3]. For some odd reason, Denver drafted TWO player on offense, both of them TEs [4].
3. The same report intimated that Mr. Elway was not pleased with Mr. Tebow as his quarterback [3].
4. With the team 1-4, second year pro Mr. Tebow, the 2nd year pro was the starter for the rest of the season and led the Broncos to their first playoff appearance since JANUARY 22, 2006.
5. At a season ending news conference, Mr. Elway stated “‘Well, I think Tim’s earned the right to be the starting quarterback going into training camp next year…'”[6] and “pledged to work with Te
bow during the offseason [sic] to polish his passing game”[6].
6. Today, Mr. Elway signed Peyton Williams Manning to be “his” quarterback for the next five years [7]. Can you taste the irony? [1,2] After all, Mr. Manning’s brother, Elisha Nelson Manning, and father, Elisha Archibald Manning III, forced the San Diego Chargers to trade their #1 2004 draft pick by stating he would not play for them [8].

7. TO CLOSE THIS SAD CHAPTER IN THE OBSERVATION OF MR. ELWAY: His latest backstabbing move was to say “‘Plan B?…I don’t have a Plan B. We’re going with Plan A.’” [7] So, Mr. Elway’s “starting quarterback going into training camp next year” [6] with whom he will be “work[ing]…during the offseason [sic] to polish his passing game” [6] has been ostensibly kicked to the curb for a 36 year old quarterback coming off of four neck surgeries in the last two years. (I guess Mr. Elway is ignoring that HUGE risk by not having a veteran backup, at this time.)
Again for full disclosure, I am an independent, fundamental, born again Christian. Players like Reggie White,

are extremely rare in any professional sports league.
Mr. Tebow’s style, while not living up to people’s stereotype of how a quarterback should play, is his own. You don’t hear people maligning Michael Vick (another quarterback I root for, unless he is playing against the Packers) for his style. I find it laughable that individuals who were screaming that the Broncos should not change (or made a mistake in changing) their offense to suit Mr. Tebow are the same people who are leading the chorus for Denver to adapt their team and offense to accommodate Mr. P. Manning. Is this necessary? I’ve heard from numerous pundits and wizards of NFL smarts that Mr. P. Manning is this awesome, hyper-intelligent quarterback who can master any offense. I’m not saying he isn’t but perhaps Mr. Elway should insist that the offense not change to accommodate Mr. P. Manning and see how successful Mr. P. Manning is in that system.
Is Mr. Elway a lying backstabber? I believe he is. I would advise any player approached to play for Mr. Elway to refuse or threaten to not play in the manner of Mr. Elway and Messrs. Eli and Archie Manning. All in all, Mr. Elway has made this a sad day for the NFL and a warning event for future players approached by Mr. Elway and the Denver Broncos.
